Jarrett, Sgt. Darren L., 56, departed this life October 3, 2021. He is preceded in death by his father, Plummer Jarrett and mother, Iris Odessa Jarrett. He is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Loretta Scott Jarrett; three children, Kiera Jarrett, Caleb Jarrett, Hunter Jarrett; three grandchildren, Lyric (9), Tristin (4), Aniyah (1); eight siblings, Lora Jarrett, Juliette Whyte (Michael), Yvonne Jarrett-Scott (David), Arnette Hardy (Ricardo), Annette Howell (Eric), Gregory Jarrett (Patricia), Troy Jarrett (Luetishia), Plummer Johnson, Jr.; a special niece (Dominique Batten); three close friends, Greg Engram, Michael McNeal, Mark Gibson and a host of other family members and friends. Darren was a truck driver by occupation. He graduated from Smithfield High School and actively served in the U.S. Army. He later joined the National Guards, where he was a member of the 29th Division Band. Darren enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, tennis and was a member of multiple community leagues. However, Darren’s greatest passion was his family and performing with the National Guard Band. He was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and soldier, who will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life service for Darren will be by Viewing Only on Friday, October 8, 2021, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. The family requests that all attendees please wear a mask.
