Cynthia LaVerne Palmer Spriggs

Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

On Thursday, December 7, 2023, our devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend Cynthia LaVerne Palmer Spriggs entered into eternal rest at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia.

Cynthia was born on May 17, 1957, to Hattie R. Palmer and the late Roynol Percell Palmer.

Cynthia was educated in the Isle of Wight Public School System graduating in 1975. She continued her education at Norfolk State University graduating with a degree in Special Education in 1979.

Upon graduating, Cynthia accepted employment with the Newport News Public School System as a Special Education teacher where she taught for thirty-four years, retiring in 2013. Her students had a special place in her heart.

Cynthia was a lifetime member of Campbell’s Chaple A.M.E. Church, where she served as Church Clerk and Secretary to the Delores “Pearl” Wooten Women’s Roundtable Ministry.

Cynthia’s love for her church family extended to mail birthday cards to each member on their special day.

Cynthia leaves to cherish her memory two children Kevin Spriggs (Aaraye) and Kimberly Spriggs; her mother Hattie R. Palmer; three brothers Calvin Palmer (Belinda), Reginald Palmer, and Stanley Palmer; two sisters Patricia Hicks (John) and Sherry Palmer; eight grandchildren Shaun, Khalil, Kevin, Kameron, Kendra, Ameerah, Tamara, and Khloe; two devoted friends Sonia Carter and Deborah McEddy and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00am on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at  Campbell's Chapel AME Church, Carrollton.  Viewing will take place on Wednesday, December 13, 2023  from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow the service in Campbell's Chapel AME Cemetery.  Please keep the Palmer-Spriggs family in your prayers.
