On Wednesday, October 6, 2021, Craig Lamonte Houchens gained his wings at the age of 55. Craig was born on March 19, 1966, in Richmond, VA to Frank and Matilda (Smith) Houchens. He was baptized and received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He graduated from Denbigh High School in 1984. He joined Navy Reserves and later, went to a trucking academy in Chicago, IL and obtained his CDL to become one of the best truck drivers in the world for thirty-two years. Craig loved Nascar, and he was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved his family and adored his mother, which he called "Momma Momma". He is preceded in death by his grandparents Algie and Lillian Smith. He is survived by his devoted wife, Bertha Mae Houchens, one daughter, Destiny Hunter, two sons, Craig Houchens, Jr., Cameron Houchens, and one granddaughter. He has four sisters: Cassandra (Rubin) Aguon, LaJoi Mines, Terry (Byron) Jenkins, and Tina Johnson. He has seven aunts, seven uncles, two nieces, nine nephews, one step-daughter, and a host of relatives and friends; one devoted friend, Nathan Jones. A Drive-Up Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm Thursday, October 14, 2021 at the Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will take place from 4-6pm on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the Chapel.
