Mother Catherine Harrington Blunt, affectionately known as “Granny,” gained her eternal wings peacefully on December 25, 2025 surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Catherine was born on June 16, 1931 to the late James, SR and Geneva Harrington in Edgecombe County, NC.
Catherine was educated in the North Carolina public school system, and shortly after began working to provide for her family after the sudden loss of her parents.
Catherine fondly recounted the day she made a “mistake” and walked into a holiness church. She saw the people of God moving, praising and thanking Him for all that He had done. She said to herself at 24 years old, that she wanted that same annointing. The mothers of that small church in 1955, tarried with Catherine until she received the gift of the Holy Ghost. From that day until now, she accepted Christ as her Savior and wouldn’t take anything for her journey. “If a man doesn’t want a woman two-timing him, then what about GOD!?”
Some years later, she met Deacon Linwood Blunt, Sr. and after marriage he relocated her to Newport News, VA. From that union they were blessed with four children: Cynthia, Linda, Linwood, Jr and Gloria. Deacon Blunt officially adopted Larry, the son from Catherine’s previous union, as his own.
Catherine was a faithful member of Grey’s Temple, located at 531 Shell Road under the leadership of Bishop Brockington. The family later relocated to Holy Church of Deliverance, under the leadership of Pastor Estelle Williams who eventually passed the church to Pastor Melvin Walton. Finally, in 2006 She joined her daughter and son-in-law in Ministry at Mount Zion Word and Faith Ministries. She served numerous positions throughout her life to include: choir member, usher, evangelist and most-recently General Mother.
Catherine loved God with her whole heart and was not ashamed to tell a dying world about a man named Jesus, especially in the grocery store. She had a heart for the young people and cared for the elderly. She was a staple in the community, known for allowing her house to be a place of refuge, where everyone received a good meal, an encouraging word and prayer.
Catherine was proceeded in death by her husband, Deacon Linwood Blunt; her son, Larry Blunt; her daughter, Cynthia Blunt and her granddaughter, Nia Symone Gibbs. Her 3 brothers: James Harrington, Roosevelt Harrington and William Harrington; 2 sisters: Mary Alston and Emma Lee Harrington; She also was proceeded by her stepchildren: Bob Blunt, Theodore Blunt, Leon Blunt, Thomas Blunt, Odell Howard and Goldie Mae McMillan.
She is survived by her 2 daughters; Linda Blunt-White (Kerry, Sr.), Gloria Blunt-Gibbs (Ray); 1 son, Linwood, Jr. (Darlene) and stepdaughter, Doris Epps. She leaves to cherish 9 grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, her extended Blunt family and beloved granddaughter, Rhonda McMillan, who kept her promise and stayed until the end.
