Carrie Ford Bailey

November 28, 1923 — October 2, 2017

Early Monday morning, October 2, 2017, our heavenly Father looked down and saw one of his children had grown tired in her earthly journey and called her home. Carrie F. Bailey was born November 28, 1923 in Smithfield, VA to the late Henry and Ada Ford. Carrie was educated in Isle of Wight Public School. Carrie accepted Christ in her life at an early age. She was a long standing member of Brown's A.M.E. Church. Carrie worked for the Telephone Company until retirement. Carrie had a love for dogs. You would often see her with her dog in tow whether in her pocketbook or riding in its car seat. She also had a love for sewing. She would cut an outfit out on Saturday and have it ready to wear to church on Sunday. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years Bennie L. Bailey, son Ernest H. Ford, sisters Clara Williams, Jeanette Putman and Helen Ford and one brother Nick Ford. She leaves to cherish her memories her special care giver her niece Latanyra M. Holloday, two sons Lawarence Lassiter (Mary) of Denver, CO, Michael Ford (Mazie) of Suffolk, VA, one sister Charlotte Clemons of New York, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and friends. A graveside Celebration of Life Service will be held 1pm on Saturday, October 7, 2017 in the Tynes Memorial Cemetery, Smithfield, Va. Viewing will be held on Friday October 6, 2017 from 4-7 pm at the chapel. Professional services are entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
