On November 6, 2023, God called Carlton Randolph Knight home at Sentara Obici Hospital. Carlton is the son of the late Ervin and Zallee Knight. Carlton was born November 16, 1952 and raised in Suffolk, VA along with sibling, Kevin Knight and preceded in death by brother, Irvin Knight.
Carlton Knight worked at Planters and later moved to the Apprentice School at Newport News Shipyard. Carlton was a Master Shipbuilder at Newport News Shipbuilding with more than 40 years of service as a pipefitter, electrician and submarine planner. He graduated from John F. Kennedy High school and Paul D. Camp Community College with an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a proud member of the Buckhorn Pirates Softball Team and Buckhorn Hunting Club, which he served as treasurer for many years. He was also known as “Blue Jay” and “Pee Wee” to many of his friends and neighbors. Carlton enjoyed hunting and working in his yard as his main hobbies.
Carlton leaves to cherish his memory, daughter Caroline Dawson, devoted and cherished significant other Georgette Eley, and son LeVar Eley; son-in-law Tony Dawson; nephews; Kevin, Kyle and Justine; granddaughters; Brittanie, Khyaire and Khaniah, grandsons; Kevon, and Romello; last surviving uncle, Linwood Faulk; two aunts; Merline Faulk and Ellen Brown, and sister-in-law, Valerie Knight.
On Sunday, November 12, 2023 a viewing will be held from 2-5pm, with reflections from 4-5pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life will take place 12pm Monday, November 13, 2023 at Piney Grove Baptist Church Suffolk, VA. Interment will be in the church's cemetery.
