Calvin Blizzard

Life Deacon Calvin “Roosevelt” Blizzard, affectionately known to co-workers as they traveled may miles over the highways and byways as Road Runner. Calvin, the son of the late Joseph and Frances Bailey Blizzard was born March 10, 1946 in Elizabeth City County, Virginia. On Monday, September 6, 2021, GOD extended his arms and welcomed him to eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Sylvia Clinton Blizzard, both parents, his twin sons (Devon & Derek), 2 brothers, Joseph Jr. and Alex Blizzard, 3 sisters Marie Clayton, Barbara Wilson and Byrdie Holmes. Calvin leaves to cherish a devoted brother, Waverly Blizzard (Sara) of Philadelphia, PA, 3 sisters-in-love, Clarice Ashburn of Windsor, VA, Mary Jean Whitley (Thomas) of Smithfield, VA and sister in love, Rosette Clinton of Smithfield, VA. Calvin had a host of loving nieces and nephews. He attended Surry County Public Schools and later joined the United States Army where he served as a Paratrooper. Jumping out of military airplanes gave him so much joy. Later in life, Calvin retired from Smithfield Foods after 39 dedicated years as a long distance Truck Driver. He traveled across country, day in and day out to provide for his family. He was a devoted member of Jerusalem Baptist Church’s Diaconate Board, Usher Board and Trustee Board. Calvin was a dedicated member of the Surry County Progressive Men’s Club, the Distinguished Gentlemen Club of Surry County and Union Love Masonic Lodge 153. Calvin was a great example of a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who was passionate about family. Love Calvin loved the LORD and his family which he was not ashamed to display his devotion. Anyone who knew Calvin, knew he had a love for motorcycles, antique cars, music, fishing and most of all, filling the room with laughter. Before Calvin began to face health challenges, keeping his vehicles spotless and a well-groomed yard were two of his greatest passions. Legacy From Calvin and Sylvia’s union, there were twin sons (deceased). Calvin leaves to cherish his memories, 3 loving daughters, Sylvia Jackson of Hampton, VA, Shelby Williams (Earl) of Surry County, VA and LaToya Blizzard (Glen, Fiancé) of Chesterfield, VA. Calvin had 5 grandchildren, Alexis “Lexy”, Ayana “Yanny”, Kaden “Ro-Ro”, Portia and Ashley. His grandkids were truly her pride and joy! A Drive-up Celebration of Life will be held 1pm Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Waverly, VA. Interment following at St Paul Holiness Church Cemetery, New Design Rd, Elberon, VA. Viewing will be held Friday, September 10, 2021 from 4-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel.
