In Loving Memory

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path. Proverbs 3:5-6

Caleb Jerome Jackson, Sr. transitioned from this life on Thursday, January 01, 2026 in Suffolk, Va.

Caleb Jerome Jackson, Sr., one of nine children born to the late Junius Herbert Jackson, Sr., and Sallie Burchette Jackson was born October 6, 1956. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his second wife Phelece; a son Caleb, Jr.; sisters Cornell (Willie Mac, deceased) Beautis and Laura Ann, and a brother Herbert, Jr, (Clementine and Delores both deceased)

Jerome, as he was affectionately called, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and a loving brother and family member to all. Being blessed with a beautiful smile, easy-going personality and a willingness to do whatever he could for all he impacted many.

He spent his formative years raised in Chuckatuck, VA educated within the Suffolk Public Scholl System and became a member of Little Bethel Baptist church at an early age later becoming a member of the Senior Usher Board. After high school he served in the US Navy and national Guard, worked at Newport News shipbuilding and was self-employed as a carpenter. Because his father instilled in him the duty to provide exceptional quality within his work, he excelled in being self employed for the community and elsewhere. In his mind he would hear, “Always do your best.” Watching westerns was one of his pastimes as well as his love for cooking and serving family and friends. Let’s not forget his love for music. One of his favorite songs was “Let It Be.” His way of greeting within the community would be, “hello there baby doll”, if you were female and “hello there baby boy” if you were male.

Jerome was blessed with three children after uniting in matrimony with Sabina. They are Caleb Jackson, Jr. (deceased) Jahdel Jackson (Camille), Savannah, GA, and Sheneal Jackson, Newport News, VA. Later he met and married Phelece (deceased) and gained a bonus son, Phillip Ross of Newport News, VA. Beside the aforementioned, left to cherish his memory are sisters; Ethel Moore (Ernest, deceased), Bonita Edwards (Wayne, deceased) and Eugonda Darden (Larry), brother Jean Jackson (Joyce), brother in law Frederick Reid, Sr., four grandchildren, two bonus grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

On Friday, January 09, 2026 viewing will take place from 3-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel.
