Brenda Diane Lane

Brenda Diane Lane transitioned from this life on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Riverside Regional Medical Center.

Brenda Diane Lane, 70 a native of Surry County, was born on August 29, 1954, to the late Jesse Lane Sr. and Clara White Lane. She was the fifth of eight children and affectionately known as Diane by family and friends.

From an early age, Brenda was active in her faith. She was baptized at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and later became a devoted member of Ferguson Grove Baptist Church, where she faithfully served on the Usher Board for many years. Following the passing of her father, the family transferred their membership to Oak Grove Baptist Church. Brenda cherished the warm fellowship at Oak Grove and looked forward to attending Sunday services.

Brenda never married and had no children of her own, but she lovingly cared for many nieces, nephews, and family friends during their preschool years. She often said, “They are my children,” and treated them with the same love, care and devotion.

A quiet and gentle soul, Brenda remained at home as the caregiver for her mother until her passing in 2012. Despite facing health challenges of her own, she continued to live independently. Brenda found great joy in tending to her beloved plants and was known for her delicious potato salad, a highlight at family gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Jesse Lane Jr.; her sister, Doretha Lane-Major; and beloved nephews, James A. Lane Jr. and George Alan Lane.

Brenda is survived by her sisters, Vertell Lane-Nedd and Irene Lane-Batten; her brothers, Roy L. Lane (Carleen), Frankie Lane (Shelia), and James A. Lane Sr. (Carrie); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish her memory.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Riverside Hospital SCIU and the Fresenius Dialysis Center in Smithfield, Virginia, for their dedicated and compassionate care.

Viewing will take place Friday, May 23, 2025 from 3-6 pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11AM Saturday May 24, 2025 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Wakefield, VA. Interment will follow the service at Mt Ray Cemetery.
