Beatrice Davis Chapman

September 6, 1933 — January 31, 2021

"I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course. I have kept the faith." I Timothy 4:7

Beatrice Davis Chapman, 87, gained her wings and soared to eternal rest in the early morning of January 31, 2021. She answered the Lord's call from her home with her daughter by her bedside. Beatrice, "Bea", was born on September 6, 1933, to the late Rossie Davis Sr. and Lucille Woodard Davis. She was the youngest of two children and preceded in death by her brother, Wilbur Davis; parents; stepmother, Adele Purdie Davis; and stepbrother, Wayne Purdie.

Beatrice attended the Isle of Wight Training School in Smithfield, VA. She married her next-door neighbor, Joseph Samuel Chapman, at the tender age of sixteen. This union bore two sons, Rev. Joseph Bernard Chapman, and Lemuel Bartee Chapman (who predeceased her) and one daughter. At an early age, Bea was baptized and joined Shiloh Baptist Church. After marriage, she united with her husband, "J.S.", at Morning Star Baptist Church. Throughout her years, she served faithfully in the Senior Choir, Food Ministry, Pastor's Aide and Sunday School. Not long after her husband's death, she joined Christian Home Baptist Church. Due to health constraints, "Sis Bea", offered her radiant smile, warm embrace, and gentle spirit to be of service to her CHBC family. "Ms. Bea" touched the lives of many with her motherly advice. She will be remembered for her stylish flair, uniquely designed jewelry, and phone salutation, "Praise the Lord." Amidst her many health challenges during the past six months, she relied upon her deep faith and trust in Jesus Christ to sustain her. Beatrice will be deeply missed by family, friends and neighbors in the Zuni community. She will especially be missed by the Hayden Village Center - Senior Services.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory a devoted daughter, Cynthia C. Smith, son-in-law, F. Lorenzo Smith, Jr., daughter-in-law, Marlene B. Chapman; brother, Rossie Davis, Jr. (Renee); granddaughter, NaTasha C. Benjamin (Jonathan); great-granddaughter, Ilyana Faith Benjamin; step-granddaughter Morgan A. Smith (Richard); step-great-granddaughter, MaKayla M. Louis; stepsister, Yvonne A. Gay (Howard); two goddaughters, Berlena C. Taylor and Patricia J. Eure; a godson, Roger Owens; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

A Drive-in Celebration will be held 1pm Friday, February 5, 2021 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will take place Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 4-6pm at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Chapman is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Chapman and Davis family in your thoughts and prayers. View Memorial Pictures
