"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever" Psalm 73:26
On March 1st, 2020 the Heavenly Choir rejoiced as Barbara walked in singing and praising her Lord and Savior with her girls Francine and Jeanette by her bedside. Her arrival was much anticipated by the love of her life Roger, and all of her sons. Her oldest boy, Marvin took her hand as he gave her the grand tour. Barbara was elated to see her brothers Ronald and Wilbert, but no one missed her more than her Mother Ruth and Father Thomas.
Barbara was one of the classiest and flashiest women that you could ever meet. She would often sit on the 3rdpew of her church Bibleway Baptist with some of the most stylish hats and jewelry on every finger. She was not to be outdone by anyone. Neither Macy's nor Dillard's had anything on Barb because her fashions were one of a kind and sewn by hand. She was a lover of life and enjoyed her family. There wasn't a day that went by that she didn't call her oldest baby Fran or her Golden Girls, Annie Mae and Estelle. Her 11:00 am call from her Brother in Law Stanley was something she looked forward to. If her stories were on you would not reach her until a commercial came on. Along with Barbara's class, came with a little sass. She had no problem telling you what was on her mind. She was head strong, disciplined and determined to not let her illness defeat her. In her last days, she told her nurses to take everything off that belong to ya'll and leave everything that belong to me.
Barbara had a voice like no other. She would be caught singing hymns all around the house and church. You would often hear her over top of the Praise Team, but her Lord meant just that much to her and she was not ashamed to praise His name. Barbara was a fighter and even in her last days she was singing Precious Lord for her girls, Fran and Jeanette. She even recited the 23 Psalm multiple times. Her Great Granddaughter Dezhire served as her PCA until her health declined.
Barbara graced this earth for 82 glorious years. 57 of those years she spent with her Roger. Carrying the legacy of love has been charged to her children, Francine (JJ), Jeanette, Tommy, and Bobby. Their combined unions blessed her with twelve loving grandchildren, Shevonne, Travis (deceased), Dameon, Jasmine, (Ray Jr.), Damarius, Travius, Marvin (deceased), Scharnelle, Matthew (Dominique), Barbara (Kevin), Amber and Chelsea (deceased). She loved her 20 great grands and 4 great grand babies. Her siblings Andrew Lee, Elizabeth, Mary, Gene, Frank, Ruby, Blanche and Larry will miss her dearly, but they know they will reunite again. She leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Barbara did not lose her battle she WON her Victory. All will miss her, but she is with her Father, pain free and living her best life.
