"To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted; A time to kill, And a time to heat; A time to break down, And a time to buildup; A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance."
It was early in the day on Sunday, October 16, 2022 that God made a special visit from Heaven to receive Ms. Alice Shirlene Tynes into the mansion he had already prepared for her. Shirley, as she was affectionately called, was born on February 2, 1951 to the late William Thomas and late Perline Piker Tynes in Isle of Wight County. Shirley was known for many things but the thing that remains well in our memory is the smile she always had when greeting you. She would make everyone she came in contact with feel welcome regardless of their background. She also was a baker like no other. There was never a question at family functions of who would make the candied yams or apple and peach cobbler because it was already known to all that she would take care of those items. She also had a love for gardening, her pets and staying up on current movies. Shirley was employed at Smithfield Packing Company from 1969 until her health condition forced her to retire in 2004. She was a member of first Gravel Hill Baptist Church where she was a member of the Women's Usher’s Ministry and Luretta Johnson Memorial Missionary' Circle.
She was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers Douglas Picott, William Tynes, James Tynes, Larry Tynes and Wilbert Tynes. Remaining to carry out her legacy are two daughters Katie and Alesia Tynes; granddaughter Asyyah Shabazz; grandsons IshmieI and AIi Shabazz; sister LaVern Tynes; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, sister in laws, cousins, relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12PM Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at First Gravel Hill Baptist Church, Smithfield, VA. Viewing will take place from 3-6PM Monday, October 24, 2022 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Please keep the Tynes family in your thoughts and prayers.
