Alma Moton Greene

July 7, 1930 — April 24, 2017

When God reached down, and collected her soul; she reached up knowing, she had to go, slipping away peacefully, her body remained; one final look back, she smiled! Early Monday morning, April 24, 2017 our heavenly father looked down and saw that one of his children had grown tired in her earthly journey, and called her home. Alma Moton Greene is the daughter of Georgia Moton Shivers. Alma was born July 7, 1930 in Isle of Wight County. She attended Isle of Wight Public School. Alma accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Little Zion Baptist Church where she served on the Usher's Ministry. She was also a community member of the United Order of Tents. Alma was always concerned about her church. She remained faithful to her church until her health failed. Alma went to work at an early age to help support her family. She was employed at the Smithfield Packing Company for 42 years until retirement. After retiring she became a care taker for many years. She loved to work in her yard even pushing her lawn mower and planting flowers. Alma was a classy lady, wearing her big pretty hats, matching pocket books, gloves and shoes. She loved family outings and her sisters' dinners. She was a loving daughter, mother, great grandmother and auntie. She was preceded in death by her siblings Irene Eley, Pearl Lewis, Susie Gatewood, James Shivers, Charlie Lias and Pauline Delk. She leaves to cherish her loving memories her mother, Georgia Moton Shivers; seven children, Percey Moton, Howard Moton (Lillian), James Moton (Shelia), Alma Diggs (David), Gloria Braswell (Cannie), Vivian Greene Brown (Ricky deceased) and Shelia Hall (James); her siblings, Sarah Pierce, Evangeline Judkins, Shirley Bailey, Patricia Spratley, and Margaret Parker; two brothers, Leslie Shivers (Betty), Wilbert Shivers (Yvonne); 18 grand-children, 40 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, her former husband Albert Greene and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
