Robert Cooper

d. September 27, 2019

Robert Cooper, 71, a longtime resident of Smithfield, VA, was called home on Friday, September 27, 2019, while surrounded by loved ones at Riverside Regional Medical Hospital. He was born in York County, VA on March 1, 1948 to the late Effie Britt and Jack Cooper, both of Cofield, North Carolina. Robert retired from PlymKraft Division in Shipping & Receiving after 27 years of employment. Robert was an outdoors man and the quintessential man's man. He wasn't a mechanic, but he could change your transmission for you. He was a Chevy man, always finding new roads. He wasn't a gardener, but he could grow vegetables with the best of them. He wasn't a landscaper, but he could tell you how to grow your Roses. He wasn't a fisherman, but he could catch enough to feed his family. He wasn't a hunter, but he's been known to kill a deer a time or to. He wasn't a Chef, but he could cook a mean pot of collard greens. He wasn't a bartender, but he'd let you taste his home-made wine. He loved watching NASCAR just as much as the National Geographic channel. But most of all he loved spending time with his wife Dannette. He was also preceded in death by his brother Sherman Britt of Cofield, NC Robert leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 12 years, Dannette Cooper; his daughters, Pamela Wells of Hampton, VA; Rosalind Denny (Micheal) of Hampton, VA; Chrissy Palmer (Garrick) of Stafford, VA; Devyani McDavid (Donta) of Newport News, VA; Shayla Johnson of Raleigh, NC; Trinette Johnson, of Newport News, VA; his sons, Timothy Wooden (Demetra) of Niagara Falls, NY; and Mark Johnson of Newport News, VA. He also leaves behind two sisters, Bernice Badger (Dion) of Chevy Chase, Maryland and Denise Wiggins of Hampton, VA; 15 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm Thursday October 3,2019 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will take place Wednesday October 2, 2019 from 4-7pm also at the Chapel. Professional Services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.
