Raymond Lewis Haskins, better known as “Fox”, was called from labor to reward and entered into his father’s kingdom at Sentara Louise Obici Memorial Hospital on Sunday, November 5, 2017.

Raymond was born to the late Nelson Lewis and Ida Butts Haskins on September 7, 1954. He joined Brown’s A.M.E. Church and dedicated his life to Christ at an early age. Raymond was a member of the Cathedral Choir under the leadership of Mrs. Evelyn Scott, who said he had a beautiful tenor voice, but was too shy to sing lead. He was educated in Isle of Wight County Public School. He was employed by Smithfield Packing Company and later by Moody’s Sanitation until his health failed.

“Fox” was very kindhearted and generous. He loved his family and was always playful with his nieces and nephews. He had a very infectious laugh that was so contagious everyone around him would begin to laugh. He was an avid Redskin fan, he loved the burgundy and gold. Other than football, some of the other things Fox loved to do was to watch westerns, movies, and listen to old school music.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, and his foster parents Horace and Sarah Butts Gatewood. A special Aunt, Mrs. Iola Brumskin. Three foster brothers; Tyrone, Horace Jr., and Linwood Gatewood.

Raymond leaves to cherish his loving memory; three sisters Sarah H. Warren(Marvin), Gloria J. Spratley(Ray), both of Newport News, VA, and Regina Davis of Norfolk, VA. Two foster sisters; Zela M. Gatewood and Alison G. Edwards(Johnnie) both of Smithfield, VA. One foster brother; Shelby W. Gatewood Sr. also of Smithfield, VA. One Aunt; Catherine W. Bailey of Newport News, VA. A Special niece Tanya G. Hardy(L.T.), of Surry, VA.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
