On February 27, 2020, God gained an angel named Mother Corine Eley. Corine was the daughter of the late Gurney and Pearlie Babb born May 23, 1926 in Southampton County, VA. She was raised in Burdette, VA along with her 7 siblings: McKinley, Livey, Gurney Jr, Mary Edith, Adell and Frances, Geraldine,She attended Southampton Public School. In the late 40's, Corine met and married Wilbert Junious Eley. To the union 6 children were born: Betty Jean, Jo Ann, Larry, Georgette, Anthony and James. In her early years, she was a cosmetology and makeup artist and she made makeup for her customers. She worked on her family farm, Sedley Peanut Sheller, and later moved on to Gwaltney Meat Packing Plant in Smithfield, VA. In her later years, she gave up working outside the home and became a housewife. In 1985 Corine rededicated her life to Christ and joined Hill StreetChurch of God In Christ, under the leadership of Elder James J. Johnson, Pastor. She was a very faithful dedicated church member and was bestowed with the title, "Mother of the Church." She served on the Pastor Aide Committee, Food Pantry Committee and sung in the choir. Mother Eley would help in the church in any capacity where she was needed. Often times she went out in various neighborhoods canvassing-to win souls for Christ. Before Mother Eleys health failed, she enjoyed fishing, lots of riding, and enjoying her animal cookies. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and watching gospel videos. Her favorite song was "The First Face I Want to See." Mother Eley departed this life Thursday, February 27, 2020; with her children and grandchildren by her side. She was preceded in death by her mother and father (Pearlie and Gurney), husband (Wilbert), son (Anthony "BB"), three sisters (Geraldine, Adell and Frances), two brothers (McKinley and Livey), and two grandchildren (B dgett and Christopher). Mother Eley leaves to cherish hermemories; one sister, Mary Edith and one brother, Gurney Jr. Five children: James, Betty Jean, Jo Ann, Larry and Georgette. 15 Grandchildren, Le'Var, Tyron, Arielle, Dorine, Denise, Keisha, Marquita, Vera, Luran, Dumar, Anthony Jr, Keisha, Toni, Nikki and Raya. Eleven great-grands and three great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews other family members and friends. She also leaves a very close and friend of the family Joe Stephens. Mother Eleywill be definitely missed, not just from her children and her grandchildren but from all the people whose lives she touched or influenced in positive ways Rest on Mother Eley in the bosom of Jesus until we meet again. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12 pm Saturday March 7, 2020 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will take place on Friday March 6, 2020 from 4-7 pm also at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Corine is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12pm Saturday March 7, 2020 at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Viewing will take place on Friday March 6, 2020 from 4-7pm also at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Corine is in the loving and professional care of Shivers Funeral Chapel.
